The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), yesterday, announced dates for the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States. Chairman of the electoral body, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the governorship election in Ekiti will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2026, while that of Osun will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Mahmood made this disclosure during the swearing-in ceremony of six new Resident Electoral Commissioners, (RECs). An unspecified number of people died on Monday in a fuel tanker explosion at Igbelajewa Village, along the Ilesha-Akure Expressway, Osun State. The incident occurred when a truck carrying diesel lost control, spilled its content and caught fire. At least seven vehicles, including an 18-passenger commercial bus, were razed in the incident.
