’18 states under investigation over funds mismanagement’ – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)  has disclosed that about 18 states are currently under investigation over allegations bordering on the mismanagement of public funds. The Commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, made the disclosure during an interview on television yesterday, but declined to name the states involved. Uwujaren spoke while responding to questions on the Commission’s decision to restrict an Osun State Government account, which he said was one of several similar actions the EFCC had taken or was preparing to take against state governments. The Special Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations in the Counter Insurgency operations in the North East (SIIP-NE), has arrived Maiduguri for its assignment. The panel was constituted by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) following allegations by a foreign media organisation against the military operation in North East. The House of Representatives has urged the Inspector General of Police (I-G) to direct a thorough investigation into alleged killing of Miss Ummulkulthum Buhari, by a Chinese national, Mr Geng Quanrong in Kano. The resolution was sequel to a unanimous adoption of a motion by Rep. Kabiru Rurum (APC-Kano state) at the plenary on Wednesday.
