Representatives of the British High Commission in Nigeria yesterday attended the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) organised by the faction led by David Mark. The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, also attended the event, which was held at Rainbow Event Centre, Abuja. The faction’s National Secretary, Ra’uf Aregbesola, confirmed their presence at the convention. A commercial court in London, United Kingdom (UK), has granted Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Ltd., final charging orders over two residential properties owned by Nigeria in the UK. A master at the court, Lisa Sullivan, granted the final charging orders to the Chinese firm following Nigeria’s prior opposition to the orders’ jurisdiction. Kano: Court sentences Chinese to death for killing Nigerian girlfriend

A Kano High Court sitting yesterday, sentenced a Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong, 47, to death by hanging for stabbing his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani, 22, to death. Frank, who lives in Railway Quarters Kano, was convicted on one count charge of culpable homicide. Delivering judgment, Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. “The defendant’s testimony is inconsistent. I hereby find him ‘guilty’. Insecurity: Chinese firm suspends work on P/Harcourt-Maiduguri rail project

The Federal Government has suspended work on the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail project following incessant attacks on the staff of China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), the contractor handling the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the project. A local court has sentenced 22 people to jail for their involvement in a mine accident that left 22 dead and 28 injured in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2019.
