Court remands nurse for raping student in Jos

By News Agency A high court sitting in Jos, the Plateau state capital, has ordered that a 32-year-old nurse, Alex Pam, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly drugging and raping a 22-year-old student. Rape: El-Rufai signs castration law

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state has signed into law the Penal Code 2020, which recommends castration of child rapists. These new provisions include the punishments of surgical castration and bilateral salpingectomy for male and female convicts of child rape, and death. Disclosing this in a statement signed by Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser to the Governor (Media & Communication), the governor said that the convicts will be listed in the Sex Offenders Register to be published by the Attorney-General of the state. The Kaduna State House of Assembly has approved castration as punishment for those convicted of rape. This follows the passage of a bill to amend the Kaduna state penal court law, 2017, by the lawmakers.
