Over 10,000 health workers in Africa infected with COVID-19, says WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says more than 10,000 health workers have been infected with the Coronavirus across Africa. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the organisation on Thursday. WHO, however, didn’t give a detailed breakdown of how the cases were distributed across the continent due to “limited information” from the 40 affected countries. We spend N1m daily to treat each COVID-19 patient with severe illness – Lagos Health Commissioner

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, said the government spends between N500,000 and N1 million daily to treat a COVID-19 patient in critical condition. Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Abayomi said the cost of managing a patient depends on factors such as being mild, moderate or severe. Madagascar herb can’t cure COVID-19 – NIPRD

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) has stated results from evaluation and analysis of Madagascar’s cure called ‘COVID Organics’ have revealed it cannot effectively cure Coronavirus as claimed. The Institute said the drug, which contains majorly Artemisia annua, reduces frequency of cough with maximum dose, producing an effect equivalent to that produced by the centrally acting cough-suppressant, dihydrocodeine. COVID-19: Rwanda reopens Churches after four months

Rwanda has allowed Churches to reopen but with strict conditions meant to limit the spread of Coronavirus, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s office. Churchgoers will now have to be registered at the entrance, while maintaining 1.5metre distance and must wear masks.  Also, congregants must not give offerings in cash, while children under the age of 12 will not be allowed in. FG releases guidelines for resumption of schools

The Federal Government has issued guidelines ahead of the planned resumption of schools in the country.
