Nigeria’s already strained health system has been hit with yet another shutdown, as the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA), yesterday launched an indefinite nationwide strike. The Federal Government has given the nod for engagement of retired health workers, mostly medical doctors, nurses, and other clinical healthcare workers, on contract basis. The Federal Government has offered to increase the hazard allowance of N5, 000 by 350 percent and 600 percent increments for junior and senior health workers in its health establishments in the country. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says more than 10,000 health workers have been infected with the Coronavirus across Africa. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the organisation on Thursday.
