A high court sitting in Jos, the Plateau state capital, has ordered that a 32-year-old nurse, Alex Pam, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly drugging and raping a 22-year-old student.
NAN reports that during the trial on Wednesday, Olive Okpuru, the police counsel, told the court that the defendant allegedly drugged the lady on December 11, 2020.
Okpuru alleged that Pam thereafter raped the lady, who is a student of the Plateau College of Health Technology, Zawan.
The offence, she said, is punishable under sections 57 and 208 of the Penal Code of Plateau Law 2017.
According to her, the defendant, who works in a clinic near the victims residence, allegedly injected his victim before carrying out the evil act.
But during the hearing of the case, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against him.
Reacting, Okpuru prayed the court to adjourn the trial to enable the prosecution prove its case.
H.K. Umar, counsel to the defendant, did not oppose the application.
In her ruling, Christine Dabup, the judge, ordered that the defendant be remanded and thereafter adjourned the case until May 21 for hearing.
