Nationwide blackout imminent, as national grid collapses again

The national grid, again, suffered a setback yesterday, causing major blackouts in most parts of the country. The collapse, announced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, (AEDC), occurred at about 12:26 p.m. yesterday. In a statement issued by the DisCos’ Spokesman, Oyebode Fadipe, in Abuja, it said only five percent, that is 20MW (as of yesterday) has been allocated, as against the over 400MWs it receives. …Asks customers to report officials demanding bribe The Jos Electricity Distribution Company says its pre-paid meters are free for customers in its franchise areas. According to a statement issued by its Head of Corporate Communications, Friday Elijah, the company asked its customers to report any official who asks for money before installing prepaid meter in their homes. “Similarly, account openings are also free and as such customers need not pay for new account openings,” the statement read. Four states plunged into darkness as National Grid collapses again

Some parts of the country have been plunged into total blackout following the collapse of the nation’s power grid. Four states in the North West zone were thrown into darkness following the collapse. Two of the power distribution companies in the country, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) and Eko Electricity Distribution Company, (EKEDC) announced the national grid collapse yesterday.
