Doctor contracts COVID-19 after receiving vaccine

A New York doctor was diagnosed with the coronavirus four days after he received the first dose of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine. The Lagos State government yesterday raised an alarm over fake COVID-19 certificates on sale in the State. The State’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi disclosed this at a press conference to give an update on the second wave of the virus in Lagos, saying it has come to the attention of the government that a number of people who came into the country were patronising individuals who sell fake COVID-19 results certificates. Another variant of coronavirus reportedly discovered in Nigeria

A leading public health official has stated that another new variant of coronavirus has emerged in Nigeria. The Head of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC), Dr. John Nkengasong revealed the existence of the new P681H strain yesterday, saying it is different from the ones found recently in the UK and South Africa. Saudi Arabia halts all international flights amid new COVID-19 strain

All international flights have been halted and entry through land borders and seaports have been suspended for a week by Saudi Arabia due to the new COVID-19 strain. Nigeria may spend N540bn on Covid-19 vaccines – Report

It has been revealed that Nigeria may spend close to N540 billion to get the Covid-19 vaccines. According to reports, Nigeria may spend the huge sum to procure and distribute 218,400,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. The figure is based on estimates of the World Health Organisation, (WHO), as regards the total amount of funds that Africa would need to pursue a vaccination drive. NBC sanctions stations for airing false health cure claims, others

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the agency that regulates broadcasting activities in Nigeria, has released “the regulatory breach profile” for the period between April to June 2020. According to the NBC document, several stations received penalties for providing false health advisory to audiences and the public on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Also, a sizable number of stations got sanctioned for peddling unverifiable ‘traditional-medicine’ claims to cure diseases. The NBC said that the quarterly ‘breach profile’ report covers most of the 600 functional broadcasting stations in Nigeria.

Covid-19: Kaduna bans large gathering, imposes restrictions on worship centers

The Kaduna State Government yesterday announced new measures to stem the rising COVID-19 infections in the State. The new regulations, which was signed and authorised by the State governor, Nasir El-Rufa’i bans large gatherings and limits the hour of worship at churches and mosques to one hour. Second wave: Nigeria records all-time highest daily Covid-19 cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC) on Wednesday, announced that 930 new confirmed covid-19 cases were recorded in Nigeria, taking the total tally to 75,062 confirmed cases and 1,200 deaths, year to date. This represents the highest ever number of daily cases recorded since the outbreak.
