Abuja airport suspend flight operations, as aircraft overshoots runway

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has been temporarily shut following a runway incursion involving an Aero Contractors aircraft. The Lagos-Abuja flight, operated by Aero Contractors, landed at the Airport, as it was taxiing on Runway A4 when its nose wheel got stuck to the ground.  However, it was gathered that there was no fatality or injury, as passengers were safely disembarked from the aircraft while efforts are currently being made to remove the aircraft from the runway. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has advised airline operators to temporarily relocate their aircraft from the General Aviation Terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja to alternate airports. The operators have been given till May 22 to do so. A Nigerian Air Force, (NAF), Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft crashed today while returning to Abuja Airport after reporting engine failure en-route Minna. International flights resumed at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport (NAIA) Abuja, on Monday, when an Airbus A350 aircraft operated by Ethiopian Airlines taxied to a halt at the airport terminal. The aircraft with registration number ET-AUC, which took off from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport with 180 passengers onboard, landed at the NAIA at about 2pm and was received to a water cannon reception.
