The Senate Committee on Regional Development has launched an investigation into the operations of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), questioning the Commission’s spending and governance structure. During an investigative session with officials of the commission and the Federal Ministry of Regional Development, lawmakers expressed concern that about ₦943 million – nearly 79% of the ₦1.19 billion spent by the commission – was used for board allowances. Reports indicate that the maiden North-West Stakeholders Development Summit, (NWDC), held on January 31, 2026, at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre in Kaduna, was overshadowed by the absence of all seven state governors from the region.  According to reports, none of the governors from Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, or Zamfara attended the summit in person. The Senate has cautioned nominees to the Governing Board of the North-West Development Commission (NWDC) against betraying the trust reposed in them by President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian people.
