NBC appeals judgment stopping imposition of fines on broadcast stations

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has filed an appeal against the ruling of the Federal High Court which dismissed the Commission’s Motion to set aside a May 2023 judgment restraining it from imposing fines on radio and television stations. Court nullifies NBC’s power to impose fines on broadcast stations

The Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja,  yesterday declared as ‘null and void’ the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, authorising the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to impose fines on broadcast stations for alleged breaches of the Code, as it ruled that administrative and regulatory bodies could not exercise judicial powers.
