The International Committee of the Red Cross, (ICRC), says more than 23,659 people remain missing in Nigeria, leaving 13,595 families in anguish, most of them women struggling with uncertainty and hardship. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Africa says 24,000 individuals in Nigeria have been registered as missing, with over half being children at the time of their disappearance. The ICRC stated that in the north-eastern states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe, volunteers from the Nigerian Red Cross have been working to deliver Red Cross messages to many families who have lost contact with their loved ones due to armed conflict. As 30 August marks International Day of the Disappeared, nearly 44,000 people across Africa are registered as missing with Nigeria having nearly 23,000 on the register of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) caseload of missing people in the continent, driven almost entirely by the conflict in the northeast of the country.
