…Launch meat processing for southern markets Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has unveiled a major reform in Niger State’s livestock trade, announcing plans to halt the direct transportation of live cows and goats to markets in Lagos and Ogun states. Under the new plan, livestock will be slaughtered and processed at Mokwa before being packaged and delivered as frozen products to the Southwest. The Nigerian Railway Corporation, (NRC), has affirmed that it would soon offer rail services to transport cattle from the northern region to the southern part of the country. The NRC Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, who disclosed this on a television programme yesterday, announced that the transportation of cows and goods would recommence through the Warri-Itakpe route. Recall that the NRC halted cattle transportation by train in 2017 due to technical issues.
