REA commissions 100KW solar power plant in Ebonyi community

Federal Government, through its agency, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), yesterday commissioned a 100KW solar hybrid mini grid power plant in Eka Awoke Community, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to the REA, the completed project is one of twelve solar mini grids under the Rural Electrification Fund – Call 1 programme that will provide clean, safe, affordable and reliable electricity for the community members.

REA Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, emphasised the agency’s commitment to electrifying rural communities.

He said: “I am delighted to announce that with the solar hybrid mini-grid being commissioned today, homes, businesses and the entire community will now have access to clean, safe and sustainable energy. This automatically enhances productivity and provides jobs in the community.”

Community Head of Eka Awoke, His Royal Highness Eze Dickland Ogalagu, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the private sector developer for providing electricity to their community.

“On behalf of my people, I want to thank the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Governor of our great State, the Managing Director, Board and Management of the Rural Electrification Agency and the developers for the initiation and successful completion of this project.”

Cloud Energy Photovoltaic Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Theophilus Nweke, stated that “The installed solar hybrid mini grid power plant, which has a total capacity of 100KW, has 330 high grade solar panels and 12KM of distribution network cable, which now serves this community with constant electricity through the 300 buildings successfully connected to the mini grid.”

Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jedy-Agba, while giving his remarks assured that the ministry of power would continue to provide all necessary seamless implementation of all Federal Government policies in the decentralization of the power sector.

“I am, therefore, thrilled that our drive has led us to this great event. This is only the beginning of greater accomplishments to come.”

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Nweze Umahi represented by his deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe, said “I want to assure you that we, the people of Ebonyi State, will do our best to support this project to ensure greater success and sustainability. Its impact is already changing lives. This project has also provided jobs for indigenes of this community and will create more during the expansion of this project. We look forward to witnessing and commissioning more of this projects that will impact positively on the lives of our people.”
