…Tinubu hails rescue
The pupils and teachers abducted in Orire local government area of Oyo State have regained their freedom following efforts by security agencies.
The development was announced yesterday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified 𝕏 account. “Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies”, Onanuga wrote.
While confirming the successful rescue, the Presidency did not disclose details of the operation or the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release.
As of the time of filing this report, it remained unclear whether any ransom was paid or whether the victims were rescued during a security operation. Authorities have yet to provide further information on the incident.
The abduction had sparked widespread concern, with renewed calls for enhanced security around schools and stronger measures to protect students, teachers and other vulnerable groups from criminal attacks.
In a swift reaction , President Bola Tinubu expressed profound joy at the successful rescue of the children and teachers from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, by the security forces.
In an issued press statement yesterday, President Tinubu praised the heroic efforts of the security agencies, especially the military, the DSS and the Police, for working round the clock in the last 56 days to secure the release of the abducted children and their teachers without any collateral damage and for arresting eight of the abductors and neutralising others.
The President has also directed that the emergency agencies work with the Oyo State government to provide all necessary medical and relief support to the children and the teachers.
