The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has raised an alarm that bandits and terrorists are imposing taxes on farmers in the northern part of the country.
National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Professor Tukur Baba, who exposed the situation yesterday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on television, was reacting to the upsurge of insecurity bedevilling Nigeria and the North in particular, lamenting that farmers also pay bandits to harvest their crops from the farm.
“Bandits are not only imposing taxes on farmers for access to their farms, farmers are also paying to harvest their crops. When the news from the World Food Programme came out, most of us were not surprised.
“The Arewa Consultative Forum for the last few years has been drawing attention to the dire socioeconomic challenges facing the population. The Government needs to attack the fundamentals of insecurity and show supremacy”, he stated.
