President Bola Tinubu has officially retained Vice-President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election after submitting the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination forms, bringing an end to months of speculation over the vice-presidential slot.
The development was announced yesterday by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, who submitted the completed nomination forms on behalf of President Tinubu during a ceremony in Abuja.
The submission formally confirms that the APC will contest the 2027 presidential election with the same Tinubu-Shettima ticket that secured victory in the 2023 general election. The decision ends widespread speculation that the ruling party might replace Shettima ahead of the polls.
The event was attended by several top APC leaders, including Imo State governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, APC National Working Committee members, federal lawmakers, members of the Federal Executive Council, governors and other party stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Masari said he was presenting the duly completed nomination forms and sworn affidavits for both President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima, describing the exercise as a key step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
On behalf of APC governors, Uzodimma reaffirmed their support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, expressing confidence in the administration’s performance and pledging that the governors would mobilise to secure victory for the party in the 2027 general election.
The submission comes ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for political parties to submit presidential nomination forms, completing the APC’s presidential ticket for the forthcoming election.
