PDP wins Kaduna Assembly by-election – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has declared Usman Baba of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), as the winner of Saturday’s by-election for Sabon-Gari constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Announcing the election result in Zaria, the returning officer, Dr. Mohammed Musa, says the PDP candidate polled a total of 9,113 votes to defeat his closest rival, Musa Musa of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), who polled 7,404 votes to come second.

Other candidates who participated in the election include Anas Abdullahi of the ADC who 62 votes; Chindo Ibrahim of ADP, 61 votes while Musa Halilu of PRP secured 305 votes.

In a related development, the INEC has declared a candidate of the APC, Hon. Yusuf Shitu Galambi, as the winner of the Gwaram federal constituency by-election in Jigawa State.

The returning officer of the by-election, Professor Ahmed Shehu announced that the APC candidate won the election with 29,372 votes while his closest rival from the PDP got only 10,047.

“AA scored 490 votes; ADC scored 44; APC scored 29372; APM scored 57; APP scored 18, NNPP scored 26, NRM scored 40, PDP scored 10,047 votes, while the PRP scored 366”, he declared.

He said the total registered voters in the constituency was 133,199 and the total accredited voters were 42,080, while the total votes cast amounted to 41,869, just as the total rejected votes are 1,375.

Recall that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila declared the Gwaram federal constituency seat vacant after the death of Hon. Hassan Yuguda Kila at the National Hospital, Abuja after a brief illness.
