The President of the Christian Association, (CAN) of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has felicitated with Muslims as they celebrate the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir, urging Nigerians to use the moment to show peace and respect for one another, no matter their faith.
In a message to Muslims yesterday, Okoh said the Sallah celebrations, otherwise known as the Festival of Sacrifice, “teaches us about sacrifice, love, and kindness”, values shared both by Christians and Muslims.
He said the occasion offered a chance at growth, and an opportunity for Christians to be closer to their Muslim neighbours, noting that “When we celebrate together, we show that unity is stronger than division”.
Part of the message read: “On behalf of the national leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), I extend warm greetings to all our Muslim brothers and sisters as you celebrate Eid-el-Kabir 2025.
“This special festival, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, reminds us of the faith and obedience shown by Abraham (Prophet Ibrahim). It teaches us about sacrifice, love, and kindness, values shared by Christians and Muslims alike.
“Eid-el-Kabir is a time to come together with family and friends, to share meals, and to care for one another. It is also a time to spread joy and build unity in our communities. As Nigerians, we can all use this moment to show peace and respect, no matter our faith.
“Eid-el-Kabir also gives us a chance to grow closer to our Muslim neighbours. Nigeria is special because of its many cultures and religions. When we celebrate together, we show that unity is stronger than division”.
Okoh also used the opportunity to condole the government and people of Niger State, adding that the Association was “ready to help”.
He called on churches to provide support for those in need by offering food, clothes, money and prayers, while promising to liaise with the government and other groups to ensure that help reaches those in need.
Okoh further wished the Muslims a joyful celebration, while stating that the Commission will continue to pray for the healing and recovery of the people of Niger State.
The CAN President also called on Nigerians to “show love, help the needy, and work for peace in our land”. “Together, we can overcome any problem and build a better Nigeria”, he added.
