…No going back, organisers insist
The Lagos State Police Command yesterday warned against any form of protest, gathering or procession in any part of the State.
The State’s Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, gave the warning during a press conference.
The warning came against the backdrop of the plan to #OccupyLekkiTollGate, which came after the ruling of the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry to open the Lekki Toll gate.
Angered by the development, some youths scheduled Saturday, February 13, 2021, for a protest at the toll gate.
But Odumosu said such demonstrations, whether peaceful or violent, will not be allowed to take place.
However, the organisers of the planned Lekki tollgate protest have reportedly said that the ban on crypto-currency accounts, among other reasons, triggered their action.
They gave the reasons in a press statement made available to our correspondent, titled: #EndSARS Season 2: Why we will #OccupyLekkiTollGate on Saturday Campaigners, yesterday.
According to the statement, the cause of the planned protest is beyond the ruling of the Lagos State Judicial Panel probing alleged killings of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in October.
The organisers explained that they are undaunted by threats by security operatives and counter-protesters, under the aegis of #DefendLagos.
