Transition Council: Tinubu nominates Bagudu, Edun members of transition committee

The President Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has nominated Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, and a former Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State, Olawale Edun as member of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC).

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) who is the PTC Chairman, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this yesterday, in Abuja.

According to the SGF, the transition process is on course and all efforts are being made to ensure that it is smooth and that on May 29th, there would be peaceful formal transfer of power to the new President.

Recall that before the February 25 presidential election, President Muhammadu Buhari on February 9 set up a 20-man (later increased to 24) transition council, including two representatives, to be nominated by the president-elect.

However, speaking at the first interface between the PTC and the media since its constitution by President Buhari, under Executive Order 14, which was signed on February 7, 2023, Mustapha said that since the inauguration, the council has met four times with the 5th held yesterday.

He also said that to ensure a smooth transition process and make the work more efficient, the PTC broke into three committees.

According to him, the first is Inauguration Committee which is responsible for organizing the swearing-in and the inaugural parade; working out the details, programmes and other logistics necessary for the successful inauguration ceremonies.

The SGF said that the committee has been active and the refurbishment of offices for the President and Vice-President Elect has been completed and that while the facility at the Defence House is ready, security personnel of the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force have also been deployed to the President and Vice-President elect.

He added that: “As part of transition, four members of the President-Elect’s team will be joining the Federal Government delegation to the Spring meeting of the World Bank.
