PDP appoints new Acting National Chairman to replace Ayu

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has announced the appointment of new National Chairman, following the suspension of the embattled Iyorchia Ayu.

The Party announced the appointment of Iliya Umar Damagum, to oversee its affairs in acting capacity pending the outcome of the litigation against Ayu.

National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, made the announcement yesterday, during a press conference at the party’s secretariat. He said the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the NWC, adding that the appointment is with immediate effect.

The appointment follows a High Court order restraining Ayu from parading himself as the party’s National Chairman.

Until his appointment, Damagum was the PDP National Deputy Chairman (North).

The calls for Ayu’s sack have been a recurring decimal since the presidential primary election of the PDP last year. Ayu, who’s been walking a tightrope since the conclusion of the Party’s presidential primary that saw Atiku Abubakar clinched the ticket last year, was suspended on Sunday by his ward in Gboko, Benue State.
