The bandits who abducted 15 Qur’anic students in Sokoto State have reached out to their families, demanding N20 million for their release. This follows the Thursday abduction of 287 schoolchildren in Kaduna State and the kidnapping of over 200 Internally-Displaced Persons (IDPs) from their camp in Borno State last  Wednesday. Suspected terrorists have kidnapped no fewer than 15 students of a Tsangaya (local school) students at Gidan-Bakuso, in Gada local government area of Sokoto State. This came less than 48 hours after another set of bandits abducted over 280 pupils and teachers of Government Secondary School and LEA primary school at Kuriga, in the State on Thursday, triggering national outrage. The Federal Government has raised the alarm over maternal and infant mortality in Sokoto State, saying 44 out of 100 newborn babies in the State die. The Special Adviser in-charge of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Health, Salma Ibrahim, made the recommendation on Thursday, during a courtesy call on Governor Ahmed Aliyu. Sokoto: Bandits burn alive woman, 2 children, daughter-in-law

Suspected bandits have burnt a mother, her daughter-in-law and two children alive in another attack on Sokoto community. The bandits were said to have attacked Kurya village in Ra?ah local government area of Sokoto State, around 8:30pm on Sunday. Several people were feared killed in a communal clash ignited by bandits’ attacks in Tangaza local government area of Sokoto State. Suspected terrorists have killed four persons and abducted 18 others in an attack on Giyawa village, Goronyo local government area of Sokoto State. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state on Friday announced the death of his Commissioner for Home Affairs, Alhaji Abdulkadir Jeli-Abubakar who is younger brother to His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar III. A statement signed by Tambuwal’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Muhammad Bello, said Jeli- Abubakar died on Thursday at 64 after a protracted illness.
