Sokoto: Bandits burn alive woman, 2 children, daughter-in-law

Suspected bandits have burnt a mother, her daughter-in-law and two children alive in another attack on Sokoto community.

The bandits were said to have attacked Kurya village in Ra?ah local government area of Sokoto State, around 8:30pm on Sunday. They reportedly killed 12 villagers and abducted 3 women during the attack.

A resident of the area, Yusuf Garba, said one of the abductees lost her husband during the attack.

Among the victims were one woman who was burnt to death along with her daughter in-law and two children right inside their room, he said.

According to him, the attackers were later engaged in a fierce battle by the army. We are suspecting they too suffered heavy losses because we saw blood stains in where they parked their motorcycles. But you know they dont leave their corpses behind, he added.

However, the Sokoto State Police Command confirmed seven death during the attack. The spokesman of the Command, ASP Ahmed Rufai, added that they were still compiling casualty figures.

Recall that between last Thursday and Saturday, the army rescued 66 abductees after raiding Gundumi Forest, in the eastern part of the State. A reliable source told newsmen that many bandits were killed during the operation.
