Strike: Labour gives Niger govt. fresh conditions

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Niger has made three points demand to enable it suspend the ongoing seven-day strike in the state. Mr Yakubu Garba, the state Chairman, NLC made this known in an interview in Minna. “We held a meeting with the government team on Saturday night and agreed that the October salaries of Local Government workers be paid. “Organised labour also demanded that the state government remit corporative deductions to workers and 80 civil servants dismissed from service be re-instated,” he said.…

FG extends suspension of new electricity tariff by 1 week

The Federal Government has extended the suspension of the new electricity tariff by one week. Professor James Momoh, Chairman, Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said this when the ad hoc Technical Committee on Electricity Tariff submitted its interim report at a reconvene bilateral meeting between Federal Government and Organised Labour on Monday in Abuja. Labour did not betray workers over strike – FG

The Federal Government says contrary to the opinion of some Nigerians, organised labour neither compromised nor betrayed workers in the negotiations that led to the suspension of its planned strike.
