El-Rufais govt. has failed in security, social welfare Kaduna ex-Gov. Yero

Former governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has criticised his successor, Nasir Ahmed el-Rufa’i, for failing to provide security and social welfare to the people of Kaduna State.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, the former chief executive of the State, also reprimanded the incumbent administration for unjustifiably firing its workers, saying the move had exacerbated the current hardships in the State.

According to him, We must say it openly, that the government has failed to deliver the several promises made to the electorates during the electioneering campaign which brought this government in 2015.

“They vowed to tackle security issues in no distant time, but six years after and about two years to the end of its final lap of the second term, insecurity has worsened beyond the level it was before they took over. This is evident that the government has failed to keep its promise on security. He said

He also responded to those who said their government had overstaffed the Kaduna State civil service, saying, We did not overstaff the State civil service. What I want people to understand is that government is not a profit-making enterprise. The responsibility of government is to provide social services to the public so that people will have peace and ease of life. So, our understanding of government is to provide employment opportunities for its subjects, but not to use make profits on the expense of the people.

He further added: All the teachers, health workers, etc, that we employed during our time were working for the betterment of the people of the state and were earning a living through that. But now that they are sacked, if you visit schools and hospitals across Kaduna State, you will find out that they are lacking sufficient manpower.

“Also, think of those who were expelled from the civil service, how would they cater for themselves and their families? he queried.
