Kwara compensates owners of schools, chapels damaged during hijab crisis

The Kwara State government has compensated proprietors of missionary schools and church owners whose property was damaged in the wake of controversy over the wearing of hijab by students in the State. The Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), in the State said the State government had since fulfilled its promise to the concerned institutions. A 300-level Agricultural Science Department of the University of Ilorin, Olajide Omowumi Blessing, has been allegedly raped to death. The deceased, who hails from Oke-Opin in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, was said to have been raped to death in her Tanke, Ilorin home on Tuesday and was staying with her elder sister at Tanke area before her death. Fulani leader shot dead in Kwara

Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed a Fulani leader, Abdullahi Hardo Buruku, popularly known as Alhaji Malam, in Lamba town, Asa local government area of Kwara State. Buruku was killed after the gunmen stormed the community around midnight yesterday, shooting sporadically.  An eyewitness said; “They shot him on the spot. We heard gunshots all over”. Before his death, the deceased who is the eldest son of the late Sarkin Fulani of Kwara, Alh. Kwara govt. begins distribution of 50,000 facemasks to schools

The Kwara State government has commenced the distribution of 50,000 facemasks to some selected schools in the State. Speaking during the distribution, the Deputy Governor, Kayode Afolabi, urged residents of the State to always take precautionary measures against Coronavirus. The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, (TESCOM), has directed the principals, teachers and staff of the 10 schools shut down over the recent hijab controversy to report at the schools today, Friday or face disciplinary actions. The Kwara State Ministry of Education has reversed its decision to reopen the 10 grant-aided schools over hijab controversy. According to the Ministry’s permanent secretary, Kemi Adeosun, the schools earlier told to reopen on Monday, will remain shut.
