Man to die by hanging for killing lover

An Abeokuta High Court on Wednesday sentenced a 39-year-old mechanic, Musiliu Owolabi, to death by hanging for killing his lover, Miss Afusat Idowu. The Chief Judge of Ogun, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, convicted Owolabi on a count charge of murder. She held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that Owolabi was guilty as charged. Dipeolu noted that murder contravened the provisions of Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the government will compensate victims of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) killings in the state. A High Court in Jos on Friday ordered that a policeman, Ruiya Auta, who allegedly killed a student of the University of Jos, be remanded in a correctional centre. Justice David Mann, gave the order, following an application by the Prosecution counsel, Chief Garba Pwul, SAN.
