Former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad (rtd), has died. A close source confirmed yesterday that the former head of the Nigerian Judiciary passed away at a hospital in Saudi Arabia. The death was also confirmed in a condolence statement issued by the Nigerian Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS), National Headquarters, Abuja. A former Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais, has died at the age of 89. Uwais, who served for 11 years from 1995 to 2006 as CJN, died in Abuja yesterday, according to a family source. The top Nigerian jurist, born on June 12, 1936. chaired the Electoral Reform Commission established by the Late president Umar Yar’adua which submitted recommended critical reforms in Nigeria’s electoral system in 2008.
