The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC), has issued permits to Golden Penny Power Limited, MTN Communications Nigeria Ltd and others for mini-grid electricity generation. The NERC said it issued nine new off-grid generation licences in the first quarter of 2024 with a gross capacity of 109.69 megawatts and three new trading licences. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC), on Friday, provided N21 billion for 11 electricity distribution companies, (DisCos), to bridge the metering gap. The amount, which will come from the Meter Acquisition Fund, (MAF), would enable the utilities to address the huge metering gap in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, (NESI). While Nigeria’s grid added just 760 megawatts in eleven years, ?angote’s refinery quickly produced 1,500 megawatts (MWs) independently. The Federal Government has back-tracked on halting the transfer of electricity regulatory oversight to State Governments. Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, revealed the FG’s policy summersault at the two-day stakeholders workshop organised by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC), in Lagos. The workshop on the implementation of the Electricity Act had in attendance the 36 State Commissioners of Energy and Power.
