Electricity tariff set to rise again in July as NERC concludes review

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC) says it will introduce another tariff review for the 11 distribution companies (DisCos) in the country. The NERC, which is the regulator of the nation’s power sector, made this known yesterday, in a notice to the general public and industry stakeholders posted on its website. The federal government and labour unions have agreed to use proceeds from Value Added Tax (VAT) to temporarily subsidise electricity tariff for consumers for the next three months. FG extends suspension of electricity tariffs by another one week

The Federal Government has extended suspension of electricity tariffs by another one week. The decision was taken on Sunday in Abuja at the resumed negotiation between the Federal Government and Labour. The negotiation committee is scheduled to meet over the next 60-90 days to resolve other outstanding issues. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has ordered distribution companies to suspend the implementation of the new tariffs which was introduced on the 1st of September.
