The Police Command in Kano State yesterday alerted the public of plans by some groups of political party supporters to cause violence in the State.

According to the Commands Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, the groups plan to take to the streets to protest the Appeal Courts verdict on the governorship election in the State.
He, however, said that the Command had taken appropriate security measures to prevent the escalation of tensions that may lead to breakdown of law and order.
Kiyawa said, It is on this note that the Police Command issue this warning to residents of the State to be extra careful as whoever intends to conduct any protest or procession should do so in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, has urged residents to be calm and avoid any form of unlawful gathering, protest or procession that may trigger violence, adding that joint security teams have been deployed strategically to safeguard peace and order throughout the State.
He said: Whoever attempts to disrupt the peace in the state will be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law, he warned, and urged residents to report any suspicious movement, persons or items to security agents for a prompt response.
This comes amidst a power tussle between the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
Recall that an Appeal Court in Abuja upheld the judgment of the election tribunal in Kano, sacking NNPPs Abba Kabir Yusuf as the north-western State governor. Declaring APCs Nasir Yusuf Gawuna as the winner of the governorship election held in the state, the court premised its judgment on party membership and irregularities during the election.
The lower court had declared 165,663 votes of Yusuf invalid, on the grounds that they were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The governors votes were then reduced to 853,939 while that of Gawuna remained at 890,705.
