The Muslim community in Nigeria and across West Africa is mourning the passing of one of its most revered scholars, Sheikh Ɗahiru Usman Bauchi, who died yesterday at the age of over 100 years.

The respected Tijjaniyyah cleric, widely regarded as one of the most influential Islamic figures of his generation, was celebrated for his vast scholarship, simple lifestyle, and unwavering commitment to spreading Islamic knowledge over several decades.
The announcement of his death was confirmed by his son, Sayyadi Ali Ɗahiru Usman Bauchi, from Madinah.
“It is confirmed; Sheikh has returned to his creator. We are all from Allah, and to Him we shall all return. It is time for Sheikh to rest. We thank Almighty Allah. His life was well spent. Alhamdulillah”, he said.
He added that burial arrangements were still being considered, noting that the revered scholar might be laid to rest either in Abuja or Bauchi.
Liberty TV and FM stations, owned by ATAR Communication Ltd, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Chairman of the group, Dr. Ahmad Tijjani Ramalan, described Sheikh Ɗahiru Bauchi’s passing as the departure of a spiritual pillar whose teachings shaped generations.
“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”, Ramalan said, in a statement, noting that the Sheikh’s lifelong dedication to Islamic propagation and mentorship leaves a legacy that will stand for centuries.

Sheikh Ɗahiru Bauchi, leader of one of the world’s largest Tijjaniyyah communities, was known not only for his religious influence but also for his peace advocacy, philanthropy, and tireless efforts to promote moral values and unity within the Muslim Ummah.
His death marks the end of an era for millions of followers, students, and admirers who looked up to him as a guiding light in spiritual discipline and Islamic scholarship.
