Kano State Government has approved about ₦39 billion for the execution of development projects across key sectors, following decisions taken at its 35th Executive Council meeting held recently.
The meeting, presided over by Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, approved funding for projects spanning education, infrastructure, water supply, healthcare, security, agriculture, land administration, and public sector reforms.
Briefing newsmen yesterday in Kano, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, said the Council approved ₦1.69 billion to settle outstanding obligations to boarding school suppliers for the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session.
He said ₦370 million was approved for the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri, while ₦375 million was sanctioned for the procurement of 50,000 crate bags for primary and secondary school students across the state. The Council also approved ₦1.33 billion for the relocation and reconstruction of Maikwatashi and Ɗanwaire Primary Schools to Gama-C, in Nasarawa LGS.
On infrastructure, Waiya said major road projects received significant funding, including ₦16.30 billion for the re-award of the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road, ₦4.43 billion for the completion of a five-kilometre dualised road in Ƙaraye LGS, and ₦2.23 billion for the rehabilitation and asphaltic overlay of sections of Murtala Muhammad Way, and Bompai Road.
Other approvals include ₦171.48 million for the Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Sakwayen Dutse Road and ₦916.16 million for the construction of a conference centre at the Governor’s Lodge in Kwankwasiyya City. Funds were also approved for additional works along the Airport Gate–Triumph Roundabout corridors, as well as mosque construction and renovations in Kura and Rimin- Gado LGAs.
In the water sector, the Council approved ₦182.12 million for a pipeline project from Hotoro Flyover to Hotoro ARTV communities, ₦577.38 million for diesel supply and outstanding energy bills owed to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, and ₦398.26 million for Phase-II of the Abba Kabir-Yusuf Reach-Out Water Supply Projects targeting underserved communities.
To strengthen primary healthcare delivery, ₦318.16 million was approved for renovation works and equipment at Lamba Primary Healthcare Centre in Bichi LGA. In the security sector, ₦483.75 million was sanctioned for the procurement of 300 Boxer motorcycles for the newly established Neighbourhood Watch Corps.
The Council also approved ₦1.49 billion for the construction of the Dangora–Masama–Dansoshiya rural feeder road, including a link road to the Dansoshiya Dam in Kiru Local Government Area, as well as ₦6.82 billion for compensation to 5,015 property owners in Rimin Zakara under the Ministry of Land.
On policy matters, Waiya said the Council approved the absorption of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps into the state service with permanent and pensionable appointments, the settlement of pending certificates for classroom construction projects across the 44 LGAs, and a directive that all such projects be completed within one month.
Other approvals include: the appointment of management and board members of the Kano State Mining Company, a comprehensive review of the Qualifying Examination Policy, settlement of outstanding Earned Academic Allowances for academic staff of Northwest University, Kano, and measures to eradicate street begging to be led by the Ministry of Women Affairs. Contracts for five-kilometre road projects in Makoda, Doguwa, and Fagge local government areas were revoked due to contractors’ negligence.
Waiya said the approvals reflect the state government’s commitment to inclusive development, infrastructure renewal, and improved service delivery across Kano State.
