Kano clash

Residents of Darmanawa quarters, Tarauni local government area of Kano State, were enveloped by apprehension and uncertainty after violence broke out in the vicinity on Sunday.

No fewer than three people lost their lives in the violence occasioned by deadly clash between rival gangs in the area.

The incident reportedly happened on Sunday evening, after one Muhammad Barde, 59, organised a Gangi event, a cultural event for local hunters, to celebrate the wedding of his children.

It was gathered that thugs used the event to engage in a supremacy battle in the area, with many of them armed with dangerous weapons; and within minutes, what was supposed to be a celebratory and joyous event turned into a sickening full-blown fracas, during which some people were killed.

The State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident, said the Police responded to a distressed call and dispersed the armed hoodlums.

However, a few hours thereafter, the fight continued among the armed thugs, leading to a confrontation with the Police. This led to the death of one Sadiq Abdulkadir, 23, of Darmanawa quarters and Muhammad Sani, 22, of Sallari quarters.

Also, a teenager Sadiq Abdullahi,18, of Karkasara quarters, was said to have died from bullet wounds when the police were trying to disperse the thugs, according to residents.

The Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, has ordered the immediate arrest of the organiser of the event alongside two others, stating that investigations would commence soon.
