Kaduna: Residents loot BUA company truck, steal cartoons of noodles

Some residents of Zaria, in Kaduna State, yesterday looted numerous cartons of noodles from a moving truck carrying food supplies owned by the BUA Company.

According to a local resident in the Dogarawa area of Zaria, the incident occurred after youths, accusing the company of unjustified price hikes, blocked the truck. Seizing the opportunity, several residents rushed to take cartons of noodles loaded at the back of the truck.

Dogarawa is a settlement located on the outskirt of Zaria along the expressway.

This is coming barely one week after hoodlums hijacked trailers loaded with foodstuffs in the Suleja area of Niger State, stealing bags of rice and other food items amidst widespread hardship in the country.

The trailers were said to be heading for Abuja from Kaduna when the thugs blocked the road and made bonfires on the highway.

An eyewitness disclosed that yesterday’s incident occurred around 3.15pm, after the driver of the truck parked by the road side to observe prayer.

He said immediately after the driver parked, the hoodlums started carting away cartons of spaghetti.

The eyewitness, who described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable, said such act had never occurred around the area since he had been trading there for more than 10 years, saying, “Not a single cartoon of the spaghetti was left by the hoodlums on the truck”.

It was learnt that a police team deployed to the scene of the incident arrested five suspects.

Recall that Nigerians took to the streets on Monday morning to protest against the escalating cost of food items and the biting economic hardship.

The protest march witnessed a crowd of placard-carrying youths expressing their discontent.
