Nigerian troops have arrested the Deputy Commander of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), one Nwagwu Chiwendu, who is also responsible for the killing of a Northern politician, Ahmed Gulak.

Chiwendu, a deserter personnel of the Nigerian Army, who was arrested in Imo State during the burial of his father at Mbaise, is accused of training IPOB members on the use of weapons.
He has also confessed to participating in the killing of the politician, Gulak, and kidnapping of two expatriates along Owerri-Okigwe Road and the killing of two police inspectors who were escorting them.
Chiwendu was their main trainer in weapon-handling, and rose to be the 2-I-C to one Temple, who is now the leader of the group in Imo State.
They equally participated in the attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office in Owerri, the State capital.
A source, however, said following his arrest, the military is planning massive raids on some IPOB hideouts in the State.
