The Jigawa State Government yesterday ordered the immediate closure of public and private schools in the state due to insecurity.

The State’s Commissioner of Education, Dr. Lawan Yunusa, confirmed the development to newsmen in Dutse, the State capital. According to him, the decision was based on an intelligence report of possible security attacks on schools, especially on border States.
When asked about the fate of pupils and students sitting for examinations, Yunusa hinted that an arrangement will be made to re-conduct the exams since the exams were internal and not external. For higher institutions in the State, the Commissioner asked them to follow suit where they perceived any security threat.
Dr. Yunusa, however, directed parents of students in boarding secondary schools to go and pick up their children.
