…Says country ‘running in blood’
A member of the 10th House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has called on the Speaker to consider shutting down the National Assembly in protest against Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Speaking during plenary, Doguwa expressed deep frustration over the continued wave of violence across the country, questioning the relevance of legislative business amid widespread bloodshed.
“Shut down the National Assembly; because who are you legislating for? What law are you making when the country is running in blood?” he said.
He argued that if the government is unable or unwilling to take decisive steps to safeguard lives and property, lawmakers must be prepared to make what he described as the “supreme sacrifice” by suspending legislative activities.
“I urge this honourable House—as representatives of the Nigerian people—to stand up and pay the supreme cost, which is no more than shutting this House down and calling for an emergency session on critical legislative issues, pending when the right action is taken by the government of the day”, Doguwa stated.
Painting a grim picture of the security situation, the lawmaker lamented that farmers can no longer access their fields, traders are afraid to open their shops, and worshippers cannot freely attend mosques or churches. “The country is running in blood and tears. Farmers cannot go to their farms. Our traders cannot go to market. Worshippers cannot go to mosques or churches. Then what are we legislating here?” he asked.
Many commentators on social media described Doguwa’s remarks as reflecting growing concerns within the Legislature over the escalating insecurity and mounting pressure on the Executive to restore order across the nation.
