…Reports 1.2m new voter registrations
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded a sharp increase in voter registrations in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, with over 1.2 million Nigerians completing the process in the second phase as of February 13, 2026.

An official update released by the Commission via its đ handle showed that 1,228,648 eligible citizens had fully completed registration under Phase-II, Week-6. The figure represents a significant rise from the 884,737 recorded at the end of Week Five.
INEC disclosed that 673,124 prospective voters began the process through online pre-registration, while 555,524 completed it physically at designated registration centres nationwide. The Commission described the development as an indication of growing public participation in the electoral process ahead of future polls.
A state-by-state breakdown showed that Jigawa State recorded the highest number of new registrants with 98,698, representing 8.03% of the total. This was followed by Lagos State with 86,307 registrants, Sokoto State with 77,004, and Kano State with 71,990.
Providing demographic details, INEC stated: âFemale â 696,891 (57%); Male â 531,757 (43%). Age Group: Youth (18-34) â 848,066 (69.02%). Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): 19,414 registrants nationwide.â
The Commission noted that the exercise is ongoing across the country, except in the Federal Capital Territory, where it has been temporarily suspended in line with electoral regulations ahead of the February 21, 2026, Area Council elections.
Phase-II of the CVR commenced on January 5, 2026, and is expected to run until April 2026. It builds on Phase I of the exercise, which ran from August to December 2025 and added about 2.78 million voters to the national register.
