The election for the Takai Constituency seat in the Kano State House of Assembly has been ruled as being inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

At INECs Takai office on Sunday, the returning officer, Prof. Usman Ibrahim, of Bayero University, Kano, made the announcement, said, Even though the candidate of All Progressives Congress, (APC), Musa Ali, scored 24,573 votes while New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate scored 23,569 votes, we still have no other option than to declare the poll inconclusive.

This is because elections in five polling units were cancelled due to over-voting, he added.

Meanwhile, a member of Kano State House of Assembly, Isiyaku Ali Danja Gezawa and 164 persons have been arrested by the Kano State Police Command. They were apprehended for allegedly trying to set ablaze the INEC office and a police station.

Ali Danja, of Gezawa Constituency, was alleged to have led a team of hoodlums to destroy the INEC collation centre in Gezawa.

Already INEC had declared the House of Assembly result of the area inconclusive following the violence that trailed the elections.

Speaking yesterday, the DIG in-charge of election in Kano, Hafiz Muhammad, while parading the suspects arrested for various political crimes during the conduct of the recently concluded governorship and House of Assembly elections, warned that the police would not tolerate breakdown of law and order.

He stated that those paraded are accused of alleged ballot box-snatchings, disruptions of elections, engaging in violence, wielding dangerous weapons and engaging in drugs related crimes. He assured that the suspects will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, urged the public to cooperate with the police in ensuring that they do not engage in wild celebrations that might lead to a breach of the law, reminding them that police have banned wild celebrations in the State.
