Flood displaces over 500 households in Kaduna

Kaduna flood alert

More than 500 households have been forced out of their homes after a devastating flood swept through Kigo Road extension, in Kaduna-North local government area of Kaduna State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, left many residents scrambling for safety as floodwaters submerged houses and destroyed property.

One of the victims, Mrs. Khadijatu Jatau, a mother of nine, said she barely managed to escape with her children. “Floodwater entered my home around midnight. I only picked up my phone and carried my children. Since then, we have been sleeping outside without food or shelter”, she recounted.

She added that many families, including women and children, are now stranded and exposed to harsh weather conditions.

Another resident, Bankole Sunday, described the situation as “tragic”, noting that the disaster has created hunger, insecurity, and displacement.

“Two women were swept away; but thankfully rescued. Since Thursday, we have not been able to return home. Snakes are everywhere; and now thieves break into houses at night to steal what is left”, he lamented.

The victims have appealed to government agencies and humanitarian groups to urgently provide relief materials, security, and medical aid to affected households.
