Election countdown: CDD deploys 4,993 observers, fact-checkers

The Centre for Democracy and Development, (CDD), has announced the deployment of 4,993 trained data clerks, fact-checkers and social media monitors for the 2023 general polls.

It also listed determinants that would shape the exercise such as identity, insecurity, institutions, information disorder and inter and intra-party squabbles.

The Chair of CDD Electoral Analysis Centre (EAC) Professor Adele Jinadu and CDD Director, Idayat Hassan, spoke at a pre-election press briefing on Thursday, in Abuja.

Prof. Jinadu also stated that the contest would be a keen battle among four candidates Ahmed Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress, (APC); Atiku Abubakar, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Peter Obi, of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP).

He suggested that political parties should ensure that their members and supporters adhere to the conditions laid out in the National Peace Accord through the voting process and after the announcement of results.

Nigerian voters, and citizens in the Diaspora, should critically assess information that they receive about the elections before sharing to help prevent the spread of malicious information about the elections, he added.
