NigeriaDecides2023: YIAGA highlights 6 factors that may affect presidential election

A prominent civic group, YIAGA Africa, has identified six factors that could impact the conduct of Saturdays elections.

The prominent civic group, in an issued statement on Thursday, signed by its Executive Director, Samson Itodo, said the factors include PVC collection challenges, relocation of voters to new polling units and economic hardship.

It further said that the latest report was based on its observations across Nigeria in the last week before the election.

A summary of the highlights of the findings from that observation includes INEC Preparedness for the election; Relocation of voters to new polling units; Economic hardship, which may impact on citizens participation.

Others are: Addressing challenges experienced during mock accreditation; Security concerns and threats to the conduct of the election; security challenges, and possible vote trading:

Yiaga Africa restated its commitment to the objective, non-partisan and credible observation of the election.

The group commended the political parties and candidates for signing the National Peace Accord, an initiative of the National Peace Committee, headed by the former Head of State, General AbdulSalami Abubakar, (rtd). 

It called on the parties, and candidates to uphold their commitment to the Peace Accord and urge party supporters to maintain the peace during and after the elections.
