The Ekiti State Police Command has taken four Pakistani nationals into custody following concerns raised by residents over their activities in Iyin-Ekiti, a community in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area.
The foreigners were reportedly intercepted after community members alerted security operatives about the presence of unfamiliar individuals whose movements had generated suspicion among residents.
Sources familiar with the development said police officers responded swiftly after receiving information from the area and subsequently detained the four men for questioning.
The individuals were identified as: Muhammad Yusuf, Ghani Abdul, Abdul Jabbar and Yusuf Muhammad, all citizens of Pakistan.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly informed investigators that they came to Nigeria for business purposes involving the sale of mobile phones and to tour parts of the country. However, security sources disclosed that the explanations provided by the men raised further questions, particularly regarding the nature of their activities and their reasons for being in the community.
The authorities were also said to be verifying documents and other information provided by the suspects as part of efforts to establish their identities and determine the legality of their mission in the area.
Police have since commenced a detailed investigation to ascertain whether any security concerns are linked to their presence and to establish if any laws were breached. Meanwhile, the Command has appealed to residents to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting unusual activities within their communities.
Authorities also reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to protect lives and property across the state.
