The Federal Ministry of Defence has dismissed as false and malicious reports claiming that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), intends to resign from office.
In a public disclaimer issued by the Office of the Minister of Defence, the ministry described the reports circulating on various online and social media platforms as “entirely fabricated” and aimed at misleading the public.
The statement was signed by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Leah Katung-Babatunde.
According to the statement, the ministry’s attention had been drawn to “a malicious and entirely fabricated rumour” alleging that the minister had expressed an intention to step down from his position.
It stated that the claim was “absolute falsehood borne out of complete mischief,” stressing that General Musa remains fully committed to his responsibilities and focused on delivering on Nigeria’s national security objectives.
The ministry said the minister remains dedicated to piloting the country’s defence strategy, adding that the government’s efforts in tackling security challenges are already yielding results.
It urged members of the public to disregard the rumour and advised media organisations and social media users to verify information with the appropriate authorities before publication or circulation.
