As Gov. Ganduje inaugurates 2,000 marshals in Kano
The Presidency yesterday warned Nigerians to continue to observe the guidelines released to curtail further spread of COVID-19 in order to avert fresh lockdown.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in a statement titled: Presidency: Nigerians should comply with mandatory mask-wearing to avert lockdowns. The statement was released on a day the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), accused President Buhari of allegedly violating the regulations on Covid-19 that he signed last week.
The party said the President violated the regulations about the use of face masks and physical distancing in Daura, Katsina State while participating in the All Progressives Congress membership registration and validation. However, Shehu, in his issued statement yesterday, said the Presidency was worried by reports of non-compliance with the regulations that make mask-wearing and observation of social distancing in the public mandatory.

While appealing to Nigerians to cooperate with the government to ensure the success of the policy, the presidential aide said Buhari introduced the order with the best of intentions and not with any motive to punish citizens.
He also appealed to State governments, traditional rulers and religious leaders to play active roles in the sensitisation and enforcement of the regulations.
In a related development, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, yesterday inaugurated 2,000 COVID-19 marshals to sensitise and enforce safety protocols in the State.
Ganduje, during the inauguration in Kano, said that there was a need to tackle Covid-19 with all seriousness.
The governor noted that the marshals, who consisted of environmental health workers, would work with security agencies, paramilitary and mobile court in the state to ensure strict compliance of all Covid-19 protocols.
