Controversial Tweet: Court remands student who said A’isha Buhari ‘Feed fat on poor people’s money’

The student of Federal University Dutse, in Jigawa State, Aminu Muhammad, who reportedly posted a controversial tweet on Nigeria’s First Lady, A’isha Buhari has been remanded in prison.

Muhammad, who hails from Azare, in Bauchi State, and is a final-year student at the Department of Environmental Management, was arrested by the Police over his tweet which appeared to mock the First Lady.

The tweet, which was posted in Hausa in June 2022, reads: “Su mama anchi ku?in talkawa an ?oshi.” in Hausa language, which loosely translates as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full”. The tweet was accompanied by a photo of A’isha.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC Hausa Service, Muhammad’s lawyer, C.K. Agu, said Aminu was remanded at a hearing on Tuesday, at a court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), pending another sitting on his bail application.

“He is currently being held in Suleja Custodial Centre before the bail application is heard”, the lawyer was quoted as saying.
