The new Emir of Kano and Chairman, State Traditional Council Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has been sworn-in as the 15th Emir of the Kano emirate.

The ceremony, which was held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, in Kano, attracted the roll call of ‘who is who’ in Nigeria.
At the commencement of the ceremony, the State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, charged the Emir to cement the relationship between the government and traditional institutions towards promoting peace and economic development, saying his administration’s decision to create more Emirate Councils in the State was to bring leadership closer to the people.

The long list of the VIPs who graced the occasion includes Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, SGF, Boss Mustapha, Chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari were on hand at the Sani Abacha Stadium to witnessed the investiture.
The occasion also saw the presence of Governors of Bauchi, Yobe, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kogi, Jigawa, Kebbi, Lagos States as well as a presidential delegation comprising Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF), Boss Mustapha, and Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari amongst others.
President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, congratulated the Emir on the appointment and enjoined him to emulate the leadership qualities of his father, the Late Ado Bayero.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar , Shehu of Bornu, Obi of Onitsha, Oni of Ife and the Oba of Benin, led the pack of prominent traditional rulers in Nigeria to the historic occasion.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and a good number of senators were left out, as Goodwill Akpabio led a delegation of ministers to the occasion. No fewer than nine governors across party and regional divide were also present at the ceremony.

Presenting the staff of office to the Emir, Governor Ganduje declared: “I do hereby present the staff of office to the 15th Emir of Kano, as prescribed by the constitution governing the Emirate Council”. In his speech shortly after, the governor admonished the new Emir to distance himself from partisan politics, as he tasked him to remain in the discharge of his duties.

Speaking after taking the oath of office, the new Emir said, “it was Allah’s sympathy on our forefathers that brought us to this notable level”. He, therefore, commended Gov. Ganduje for making it possible for him to inherit the throne of his forefathers.
He pledged to work in line with guiding principles while respecting constituted authorities in the discharge of his duties and called for the support of traditional title holders, government officials and well-meaning individuals to enable him to succeed.
The Emir maintained that the Kano Emirate will operate an all-inclusive traditional institution regardless of ethnic and religious divides and cater to the needs and aspirations of the people.
Aminu Ado Bayero is the 15th Emir of Kano from the Fulani Sullubawa clan. He ascended the throne on 9 March, 2020, following the deposition of his nephew, Muhammad Sanusi II by Governor Ganduje.
